In short
Cartillery is a steampunk survivorlike where your weapons are bolted to a battle-cart. You are chained to its handles and push it, or pull it, through thousands of maintenance drones.
Description
The game is set in the Scrapyard, a dead industrial zone still maintained by the automated System that ran it. The System recycles any machine it did not build, and it did not build the haulers' carts.
As a Gear-Hauler, you push an armed cart into the Scrapyard to salvage what the Colony needs. Every weapon is a physical object mounted in a socket on the cart; each socket takes only certain kinds of weapon, and where a weapon sits decides what it can hit. Point where the cart should go and the hauler pushes it there, or turns back and pulls it, and every gun turns with it. The cart also rams whatever it drives into.
Rounds alternate between fights against the swarm and a workshop. Level-ups earned in a fight are picked when it ends, then the Scrap you salvaged buys and merges weapons and modules, and moves weapons between sockets. The last round brings a boss. When a hauler is lost, the Colony sends another.
Features
- Weapons bolt into typed sockets on a battle-cart, and each socket decides where its gun can aim.
- Push or pull: point where the cart should go, switch between pushing and pulling, and ram drones with the cart itself.
- Thousands of drones a run: Mites in carpets, Weevil Elites that ram, Bombardiers that explode, Wasps in the air, Ticks that latch on, and a Centipede Locomotive to finish.
- Level-ups bank during the fight and are picked at the round's end: nothing interrupts the driving.
- Between rounds, buy and merge weapons and modules, and move weapons until their arcs cover the cart.
- Between runs, the Archive: Data Crystals survive the hauler and unlock new carts, weapons and modules.
- There are no cutscenes. The story is in the System's log lines and the Colony's paperwork.
